Introduction

The CF-25 Pillar Drill

The Drill Press is a large 3-phase drill for making holes in wood/metal/plastics up to 100mm in diameter depending on drill type. It requires the same basic safety precautions as all rotating machinery, No loose clothing, Tie long hair back,Wear eye protection, Clamp work securely. Induction is not required for the drill press. The drill press is located on the west wall of the downstairs workshop, regular drills can be found on the hand-tools bench and very large morse-taper drills can be found in the black cupboards by the metalworking lathe. If you break or blunt a drill then it can be put into the pot marked "Blunt or Broken Drill bits for Resharpening" that's on top of the shelves above the hand tools bench and they'll be resharpened when someone (probably Steve or Scott) gets around to it!

Setting speed

  1. Pick the suitable speed for your job, the speeds chart above the lathe may help guide you
  2. Isolate the machine - the switch is on the wall above and right of the drill
  3. Lift the lid
  4. Slacken the clamping screws at the back on the both sides (the black hand-wheels)
  5. Pull the lever towards you to slacken the belts.
  6. There is a speed chart under the lid.
  7. Move belts to the appropriate positions, only the listed combinations are allowed and belts must be straight
  8. Push the lever on the right back to tighten the belts.
  9. Lock this with the two clamps.
  10. Put the lid down.
  11. De-isolate the drill
  12. Make holes
  13. Clean up machine
