Mayku Formbox Vacuum Former

Introduction[edit]

Mayku Formbox Vacuum Former

The Mayku Formbox is a table-top vacuum forming machine that can make moulds and shaped panels using a variety of templates, including 3D printed models.

It uses thermoplastic sheets between 0.25 and 1.5mm thickness in these materials :

  • PETg
  • HIPS
  • ABS
  • Polystyrene
  • Polypropylene
  • Polycarbonate
  • Polyethylene
  • Acrylic PMMA

The forming bed is 200mm x 200mm and can be used to make forms up to 150mm x 150mm with a maximum height of 130mm.

The former uses a vacuum cleaner to provide the necessary suction force. This must be connected to the rear port with the hose provided, and have the power plugged into the special socket on the back of the former. The vacuum must draw no more than 2000w power. The lab's Henry vacuum is suitable for this task.

The manual for the vacuum former is File:Mayku FormBox Starter Book V13.pdf

The vacuum former normally lives in the main workshop upstairs, on one of the side benches.

Some forming sheets are kept in a box with the machine. These are priced, with money going in the upstairs workshop honesty box.

More information on how to get the most out of the machine can be found on the Mayku site here.
